Gemini Certified Faculty became the focus of an intensive training program for lecturers from the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universitas Airlangga, on 21 July 2026. The faculty hosted the event from 08:30 a.m. at the FST Meeting Room and online through Google Meet. The program prepared lecturers to integrate artificial intelligence into academic activities while strengthening their readiness for the official Google certification examination.
The event began with participant registration through the Novaio Academy platform, followed by the official opening ceremony. Afterwards, participants completed a pre-training survey to assess their initial understanding of artificial intelligence. The organizing committee then introduced the training agenda and learning objectives for the day.
Gemini Certified Faculty Equips Lecturers with Practical AI Skills
Wisnu Wiyantoro opened the first session by explaining the fundamentals of Large Language Models (LLMs) and integrated multimodal AI architecture. Participants explored how text, images, audio, and video work together in modern AI systems. In addition, they learned Google’s AI Principles, global personal data protection regulations, and secure data encryption practices that help prevent sensitive information from reaching public servers.
Next, participants explored the capabilities of Gemini Apps for academic and professional workflows. The instructor demonstrated interface navigation, preference management, and effective use of Gemini Canvas for drafting long reports and collaborative coding projects. Furthermore, participants practiced Agentic Search (Deep Research) to plan multiple research queries and synthesize more than twenty scientific journal sources into comprehensive reports. They also created custom AI assistants, known as Gems, to support academic writing and research grant proposal development.
After that, the training introduced NotebookLM as a private knowledge base solution. Participants uploaded PDF files, official website links, and Google Docs to build secure knowledge repositories. They also experimented with Audio Overviews to generate AI-powered educational podcasts based on course materials. Moreover, they created visual concept maps and interactive quizzes using authentic reference documents. As a result, lecturers gained practical tools for research and teaching while reducing the risk of AI-generated misinformation.
Before lunch, Wisnu Wiyantoro discussed the official Google examination strategy. He reviewed the certification blueprint, explained all 37 multiple-choice practice questions, and shared practical approaches for solving classroom-based case studies. Subsequently, the organizing committee synchronized participant accounts with the official Google for Education examination portal and activated scholarship voucher tokens.
Following the lunch break, participants began the official certification examination at 1:15 p.m. under supervised conditions. After completing the examination, each participant uploaded a screenshot of the examination report to the monitoring dashboard. Finally, the committee concluded the program with a group photo and a closing session.
Through this initiative, the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universitas Airlangga reaffirmed its commitment to advancing digital competencies among lecturers. Moreover, the training encouraged responsible AI adoption in higher education. Consequently, participants strengthened their ability to integrate artificial intelligence into teaching, research, and academic innovation while preparing for international certification through Gemini Certified Faculty.
