On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) hosted an official visit from 28 delegates of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education (FPMIPA) of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). This visit aimed to conduct benchmarking and explore potential collaboration in the fields of academics and quality assurance, as part of efforts to enhance the quality at both institutions.

The delegation from FPMIPA UPI was led by the Dean of FPMIPA UPI, with participation from academic leaders and faculty members from various fields of science and education. Meanwhile, the host was represented by the Dean of FST UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Miratul Khasanah, M.Si., along with two Vice Deans of FST, Prof. Dr. Suryani Dyah Astuti, M.Si. (Vice Dean II) and Prof. Dr. Fatmawati, M.Si. (Vice Dean III). Several faculty members from various departments at FST UNAIR also attended to strengthen the academic synergy hoped to emerge from this meeting.

The event began at 08:00 AM with opening remarks and introductions from both sides. In his speech, the Dean of FPMIPA UPI expressed hopes that this visit would mark a concrete step toward strengthening collaboration between the two faculties, particularly in academic development, research, and quality education improvement. The Dean of FST UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Miratul Khasanah, M.Si., also emphasized the importance of cross-institutional collaboration in addressing global challenges in education and research.

After the introductions, the event proceeded with in-depth discussions on various topics that were the focus of the visit, such as faculty and study program management, best practices in quality assurance, administrative management, alumni management, internationalization strategies, and scholarly publication. Both faculties shared experiences and best practices that have been implemented, with the goal of learning from each other and enriching their knowledge in managing higher education institutions.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 17, which focuses on partnerships to achieve the goals. As institutions committed to sustainable academic development, FPMIPA UPI and FST UNAIR agreed that collaboration in various fields, from education and research to community service, is essential to support the achievement of these SDGs.

This visit also provided an opportunity for faculty members to strengthen their academic networks and explore collaborative research opportunities between the faculties. It is hoped that this meeting will open doors for more collaborative programs, such as joint research, student exchange, and capacity building for human resources at both faculties.

The event, which lasted until 12:00 PM, was concluded with a group photo and a commitment to follow up on the ideas discussed during the meeting. This event is expected to provide significant benefits to both parties, particularly in terms of improving the quality of education and research as well as strengthening academic networking.

Through this activity, both FPMIPA UPI and FST UNAIR hope that the collaboration established will continue to grow, making a tangible contribution to the development of science and technology and improving the quality of education in Indonesia.
