The Strategic Meeting UNAIR NTU Singapore took place on Monday, 11 May 2026, at the Faculty of Science and Technology meeting room. This meeting marked an important milestone in strengthening the global partnership between the Environmental Engineering Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universitas Airlangga and Nanyang Technological University. The session ran from 10:00 to 12:00 WIB and gathered key academic leaders and faculty representatives.
The meeting welcomed Vice Dean III of FST, Prof. Dr. Fatmawati, Head of the Environmental Engineering Study Program Nur Indradewi Oktavitri, faculty representatives, and visiting academic Tuti Mariana Lim from NTU Singapore. From the beginning, participants shared ideas actively and focused on identifying practical opportunities for collaboration. As a result, the discussion developed into a productive and forward-looking dialogue.
Discussion on the 3+1+1 Pathway Program
Participants centered the first session on the proposed 3+1+1 pathway program. This scheme allows students to complete three years of study at UNAIR, one year at NTU, and an additional year in a master’s program. Through this structure, students can gain international academic exposure earlier in their academic journey. Consequently, graduates will be better prepared to compete in the global job market.

The team then reviewed curriculum alignment and credit transfer mechanisms. These aspects play a critical role in ensuring smooth student mobility between institutions. Furthermore, the discussion highlighted scholarship opportunities and academic readiness requirements for students. Participants exchanged insights and recommendations to ensure the program can be implemented effectively.
In addition, student exchange was identified as the most realistic starting point. Such initiatives will broaden students’ global perspectives while strengthening international academic networks. At the same time, lecturers will benefit from expanded opportunities for collaborative teaching and joint publications. Therefore, the participants agreed that the 3+1+1 pathway represents a long-term strategic investment for both institutions.
Research Collaboration and Academic Strengthening
The second session focused on potential research collaboration between the Environmental Engineering programs of both universities. Participants identified several priority research areas, including urban environmental challenges, waste treatment technologies, climate change, and water resource management. These themes closely align with current global sustainability challenges.
Moreover, the meeting explored opportunities for joint research projects, international seminars, and visiting professor programs. These initiatives can significantly enhance the quality of scientific publications and strengthen the academic reputation of both institutions. In addition, laboratory collaboration emerged as a promising opportunity because both universities possess complementary research facilities.
As a follow-up action, participants agreed to prepare a formal memorandum of understanding to support long-term collaboration. They also committed to maintaining close communication to accelerate implementation. Overall, the Strategic Meeting UNAIR NTU Singapore represents a promising first step toward expanding international education and research partnerships.
