FMIPA UNS and FST UNAIR Exchange Best Practices in Graduate Program Management
FMIPA UNS and FST UNAIR strengthened their academic partnership through a benchmarking visit focused on the development of graduate education. The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), welcomed a delegation from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. The meeting was held in the Faculty Meeting Room on the second floor of FST UNAIR. The forum served as a platform for exchanging experiences while reinforcing academic collaboration.
In addition, both faculties discussed the development of fast-track programs, curriculum design, and the implementation of research-based master’s and doctoral programs (by research). Therefore, participants used the opportunity to share best practices that have been successfully implemented at their respective institutions.
The Dean of FST UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Miratul Khasanah, M.Si., officially opened the event and welcomed the FMIPA UNS delegation. She emphasized that collaboration between faculties can accelerate innovation in higher education. Furthermore, she encouraged all participants to strengthen academic networks through sustainable partnerships.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FMIPA UNS, Prof. Dr. Desi Suci Handayani, S.Si., M.Si., led the delegation from Surakarta. She introduced the faculty leadership team participating in the visit and reaffirmed FMIPA UNS’s commitment to advancing graduate education through academic collaboration.
Strategic Discussion on Fast-Track Programs and Research-Based Education
Following the opening session, both faculties proceeded to the main discussion. The Vice Dean III for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation at FST UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Fatmawati, M.Si., also participated in the meeting. Subsequently, the Coordinators of the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Science at FST UNAIR shared their experiences in managing graduate education.
Participants discussed research-based curricula, student admission mechanisms, and academic supervision systems. In addition, they explored the international scientific publication requirements for master’s and doctoral students. As a result, both faculties gained broader insights into effective strategies for managing graduate programs.
The FMIPA UNS delegation actively raised questions regarding the implementation of fast-track programs. The program coordinators then explained their experience in aligning undergraduate and master’s curricula. They also presented strategies for mentoring students from the proposal development stage through international scientific publication.
On the other hand, FMIPA UNS shared its own experiences in developing graduate education. Consequently, the discussion became highly interactive, allowing participants to exchange ideas on academic challenges and practical solutions.
