Assoc. Prof. Ts Norhaslinda Kamaruddin from the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Science (FSKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), was recently appointed as Adjunct Professor, focusing on data science at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia. The one-year appointment from January 2020 is a great honor for Dr. Norhaslinda because Airlangga University is in the process of developing a new faculty of Advanced and Multidisciplinary Technology which consists of five new programs namely; Data Science Technology, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.
With the commencement of the data science program, Universitas Airlangga will become a pioneer institution of higher education in Indonesia that offers data science at the undergraduate level. As an additional professor, Dr. Norhaslinda will be responsible for evaluating and providing advice on curriculum and lesson planning to ensure that the graduates will be able to obtain the necessary knowledge and have the ability to apply the knowledge in their chosen industry.
Data science is a new field of study that combines knowledge from computer science and information technology as well as mathematics and statistical understanding of the depth of specific domain knowledge. Since t the data is formed through a variety of digital trace channels, relevant insights can be mined to help stakeholders make decisions. It is estimated that as much as 1.7 MB of data will be generated every second for everyone on earth in 2020. Therefore, professional data development is very important to support the needs of various sectors from marketing to the health sector.
Dr. Norhaslinda will also be involved in publishing indexed articles together with academicians from Universitas Airlangga and joining the supervision of the students. This activity is meant to improve the research and collaboration relationship between the two universities and also to improve the welfare of the community. The two universities are also expected to join in community social responsibility (CSR) activities to make a positive impact on society and the environment.
Furthermore, Dr. Norhaslinda will also be a bridge in connecting the two universities through projects and collaborations that have a large impact that not only benefits the university but also wider community. The appointment of additional professors is also an important sign that shows a strong bond between UiTM and Universitas Airlangga.
Dr. Norhaslinda has published many research papers on affective computing, data analysis, and driver behavior. Her latest paper titled Detection of Neuro-physiological Porn Addiction Using the Machine Learning Approach was published in Jurnal Teknik Elektro dan Ilmu Komputer, Indonesia.
