On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, a delegation from Airlangga University (UNAIR) continued its visit to the Netherlands by visiting Utrecht University. The delegation included Prof. Dr. Fatmawati, M.Si., Vice Dean for Research and Cooperation at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), UNAIR; Cicik Alfiniyah, M.Si., Ph.D., Secretary of the Department of Mathematics, FST, UNAIR; and Bidayatul Masulah, S.Si., a UNAIR Mathematics graduate who is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics at Leiden University and completing an internship at Utrecht University in Theoretical Biology.

The visit was divided into two main sessions: the first at the Mathematics Institute from 12:00–13:30 CET, and the second at the Biology Institute from 15:00–17:30 CET. Each session was initiated with warm greetings from both sides, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration to enhance the quality of education and research.

The first session took place at the Mathematics Institute of Utrecht University, where the UNAIR delegation met with Prof. Dr. Kees Oosterlee, Chair of the Mathematical Institute, and Prof. Dr. Gunther Cornelissen, Research Director. The discussion covered potential student and staff exchange programs, opportunities for research collaboration, and exploration of innovative projects in the field of mathematics.

In the second session, the activities began with a guest lecture delivered by Cicik Alfiniyah from FST, UNAIR. Following this, the delegation met with Dr. Erika Tsingos to discuss research and publication collaboration opportunities, as well as the development of innovative projects in biology. The discussion is expected to pave the way for new collaborations that will strengthen both theoretical and applied biology.
This visit aimed to strengthen the relationship between UNAIR and Utrecht University, creating a framework for mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields of science. With a strong synergy between both institutions, it is hoped that new opportunities will arise for students, staff, and researchers to contribute on the international stage.
