ICASMAT 2024: International Conference Drives Innovation in Science and Technology for Sustainable Development

On October 17, 2024, the graduate programs (Master’s and Doctoral) at the Faculty of Science and Technology organized an international conference: the 2nd International Conference on Applied Science, Mathematics, and Technology 2024, or ICASMAT 2024 for short. This conference was held online via a virtual meeting platform and was attended by 74 participants from various institutions, including Universitas Airlangga, BINUS University, Hasanuddin University, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology, Bogor Agricultural University, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, PGRI University Madiun, and even Universiti Sains Malaysia. The keynote speakers for the conference included Dr. Tan Suat Cheng from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Carina Joe from Universitas Airlangga, and Prof. Hadi Susanto from Khalifah University Dubai. ICASMAT 2024 also featured invited speakers such as Ebtesam Abdullah Al-Suhaimi, PhD, from Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University (IAU) Saudi Arabia, Prof. Ni’matuzahroh from Universitas Airlangga, Dr. Rifai Chai from Swinburne University of Technology Australia, Herri Trilaksana, M.Si., Ph.D., from Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Juhana Jaafar from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Dr. Muhammad Anshari from Universiti Brunei Darussalam School of Business and Economics, and Dr. Rimuljo Hendradi from Universitas Airlangga. These speakers shared their insights on the fields of science, technology, mathematics, and issues related to sustainable development.

The ICASMAT 2024 conference was opened by Prof. Dr. Miratul Khasanah, M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universitas Airlangga. In her opening speech, she expressed that this conference was expected to provide a good opportunity for students, faculty members, and researchers to establish better communication. She hoped that this intellectual discourse could open opportunities and strengthen collaborations between universities and the global community, as well as benefit academics, practitioners, and society in achieving sustainable development goals. She also expressed her deepest gratitude to the keynote speakers, invited speakers, and other presenters for sharing valuable insights related to their research, as well as to the chairperson and the organizing committee for their hard work in making this conference a success. After Prof. Dr. Miratul Khasanah’s speech, the next remarks were delivered by Ade Agung Hermawan, a Ph.D. student from the MIPA program, who served as the chair of ICASMAT 2024.

The presentation sessions by the keynote speakers were moderated by Anjar Tri Wibowo, Ph.D., and Dr. Windarto, M.Si. The parallel sessions were then held in separate virtual rooms, with Rooms 1 and 2 dedicated to the topic of “Life Science and Technology,” which also featured invited speakers such as Ebtesam Abdullah Al-Suhaimi, PhD, Prof. Ni’matuzahroh, Dr. Rifai Chai, and Herri Trilaksana, M.Si., Ph.D.; while Rooms 3 and 4 were focused on the topic of “Applied Science and Technology,” with invited speakers including Prof. Juhana Jaafar, Dr. Muhammad Anshari, and Dr. Rimuljo Hendradi.

The ICASMAT 2024 conference lasted for approximately 4 hours. This event is expected to foster the exchange of ideas regarding science and technology innovations for sustainable solutions. Additionally, the conference aims to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthen the role of STEM in achieving the SDGs, and provide new insights for participants regarding the latest innovations and research.
