Guest Lecture on “Transcriptomic Analysis” by Dr. Tan Suat Cheng at the Biology Bachelor’s Program

The advancement of science, particularly in biotechnology and molecular biology, has made significant progress in understanding biological processes at the molecular level. This was the main topic of the guest lecture on “Transcriptomic Analysis,” organized by the Master’s Program in Biology, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga, on October 10, 2024, with Dr. Tan Suat Cheng (Biomedicine, Universiti Sains Malaysia) as the speaker. This event was attended by Master’s students in Biology, particularly those enrolled in molecular analysis techniques courses. Molecular analysis techniques are fundamental for understanding various biological phenomena, ranging from the structure and function of molecules, molecular interactions, to complex genetic regulation. One of the increasingly important analysis methods is transcriptomics, which involves studying gene expression comprehensively within cells or organisms. Transcriptomics allows for the understanding of gene expression dynamics under both normal and pathological conditions, as well as in response to environmental changes or therapies.

In this guest lecture, participants had the opportunity to delve deeper into how molecular analysis and transcriptomic techniques can be used to uncover information behind gene expression and the biological processes underlying it. It is hoped that this event will enrich the participants’ knowledge and inspire further research and development in the fields of biotechnology and life sciences.
