On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM, the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at Airlangga University (UNAIR) welcomed a visit from SMA Negeri 1 Malang. The visiting students, guided by FST Ambassador students, were warmly received by Prof. Dr. Fatmawati, M.Si., Vice Dean III of FST UNAIR, and Dr. M. Fariz Fadillah Mardianto, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer in Statistics at FST UNAIR, who also served as the keynote speaker introducing the students to the UNAIR environment, especially FST. The FST Ambassadors also accompanied the guests throughout the visit. Both parties expressed their gratitude for the visit and warm welcome, hoping that this event would provide insights and motivation for students to pursue higher education at UNAIR, particularly in FST.
The event continued with a screening of the FST UNAIR profile video, which provided an overview of various interesting aspects of FST UNAIR. Following the video, Mr. Fariz elaborated on its content through a presentation, covering general information about UNAIR and FST, including the most competitive study programs, career prospects for FST graduates, and more. To make the session more interactive, Mr. Fariz incorporated several simple quizzes related to FST UNAIR. For instance, he asked the students how many departments FST UNAIR has based on the profile video, which study programs fall under the Department of Physics, which programs have the highest competitiveness in FST UNAIR, and other engaging questions.
After the presentation, a question-and-answer session was opened for students and teachers who wanted to learn more about UNAIR and FST. The session was filled with enthusiasm, with students asking intriguing questions such as whether the quota for independent admissions at UNAIR remains consistently at 50% each year, whether UNAIR graduates can work in UNAIR-owned facilities, what preparations are needed for overseas programs, particularly for FST UNAIR students, and many more insightful inquiries. After approximately two hours, at 1:00 PM, the visit of SMA Negeri 1 Malang to FST UNAIR came to an end. The event concluded with a closing prayer and a documentation session.
