Bagaimana proses perpanjangan akreditasi internasional ASIIN?

Apa manfaat perpanjangan akreditasi internasional ASIIN?

UNAIR’s Chemistry Undergraduate Program finally succeeded to extend its ASIIN accreditation, which now expires in September 2023. This means that UNAIR’s Chemistry Undergraduate Program has been acknowledged as a part of academic institutions with high standard and quality education in the international level. It is an achievement that we should be grateful for considering the process to achieve it was not instant. Besides the lecturers, education staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders, including faculty directors and university directors also played an important role in achieving this target.

What is ASIIN?

ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik) is an accreditation institution for study programs on Engineering, Information Science/Computing, Natural Science, and Mathematics. The institution that is headquartered in Germany is responsible for ensuring and improving the academic education quality of an institution. The primary indicators assessed in this international accreditation include learning system, learning output, assessment, and achievement evaluation.

How was the process of extending ASIIN international accreditation?

The accreditation documents have been prepared since 2017. It was continued by sending curriculum documents and self-assessment report to ASIIN. Around November 2017, the assessor team conducted a visitation to UNAIR’s Chemistry Undergraduate Study Program. After that, ASIIN gave an acknowledgement of accreditation for one year (March 2018-March 2019) with several requirements and recommendations that must be complied by the study program.

In order to meet the requirements and recommendations, UNAIR’s Chemistry Undergraduate Study Program designed various activities in that span of one year. Some of which include the reconstruction of learning modules, alumni profiles, and learning outputs; provision of workspace labs in accordance with the practice work standard; and purchase of new instruments that support education laboratories. The completion and dispatch of assessment and progress report in the early 2019 resulted in a positive outcome, which is the extension of the accreditation until 2023.

What is the benefit of extending ASIIN international accreditation?

Being internationally accredited by ASIIN increases the confidence of UNAIR’s Chemistry Undergraduate Study Program to compete globally. A more measured assessment and evaluation on study programs and lecturers is a form of continuous improvement. An international recognition on learning management will have a huge positive impact on the graduates. It certainly will be an asset to increase Indonesian people’s interest in taking a degree in Chemistry at Universitas Airlangga. Moreover, there will be more foreign students who are interested in joining a student exchange program in Chemistry UNAIR. Therefore, it is not impossible that various kinds of funding and international or national collaborations increases.

The same thing was stated by Dr. Purkan, M.Si. as the Head of Chemistry Undergraduate Study Program in UNAIR. With the extension of ASIIN accreditation, he hopes that UNAIR’s Chemistry Undergraduate Study Program can be more well-known by the general public so as to make more cooperation with other institutions, both national and international.
