Held at the Faculty Meeting Room (RSF) on the second floor, the event was organized by the Department of Mathematics and featured two researchers participating in the <span class=\"s1\"><b>Airlangga Post-Doctoral (APD) Domestic Program<\/b><\/span>.<\/p><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faculty members and students from the undergraduate (Bachelor\u2019s), master\u2019s, and doctoral programs in Mathematics and Natural Sciences attended the event. The participation of attendees from various academic levels reflected a strong interest in the advancement of applied mathematics research.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event was also attended by Prof. Dr. Fatmawati, M.Si., Vice Dean III for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation of FST UNAIR. As a professor and senior lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, she shared her insights on the importance of strengthening multidisciplinary research collaborations.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her presence further underscored FST UNAIR\u2019s commitment to promoting innovative and impactful applied research that addresses real-world challenges.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><h5><span class=\"s1\"><b>Mathematics for Epidemic Prediction and Food Security<\/b><\/span><\/h5><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first session, Dr. Muhammad Abdurrahman Rois, M.Mat. from Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Walisongo Semarang presented his research on Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) modeling. His study integrates environmental temperature effects into mathematical models of disease transmission.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/fst.unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1B-1024x506.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fst.unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1B-1024x506.png 1024w, https:\/\/fst.unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1B-300x148.png 300w, https:\/\/fst.unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1B-768x380.png 768w, https:\/\/fst.unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1B.png 1339w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p class=\"p1\">He explained several limitations of conventional epidemiological models. Subsequently, he introduced a novel approach by incorporating the <span class=\"s1\"><b>Bri\u00e8re Function<\/b><\/span> into a nonlinear differential equation system. This method enables researchers to analyze the influence of temperature on mosquito biting rates and the life cycle of <span class=\"s1\"><i>Aedes aegypti<\/i><\/span> mosquitoes.<\/p><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, the research has significant potential to support the development of a Mathematical Early Warning System. Such a system could assist public health authorities in predicting dengue outbreaks more accurately and effectively.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p class=\"p1\">In the second session, <span class=\"s1\"><b>Dr. Hasan Panigoro<\/b><\/span> from Universitas Negeri Gorontalo presented his research in agricultural mathematics. His lecture, titled <span class=\"s1\"><b>\u201cMathematical Modeling for the Control of Corn Crop Pests\u201d<\/b><\/span>, focused on addressing agricultural challenges through quantitative approaches.<\/p><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During his presentation, Dr. Hasan demonstrated how mathematical models can support pest management through optimal control strategies. Furthermore, the models utilize data and simulations to generate more effective recommendations for farmers and agricultural stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through this approach, mathematics extends beyond theoretical inquiry. Instead, it provides data-driven solutions that contribute directly to national food security and sustainable agricultural development.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><h5><span class=\"s1\"><b>Interactive Discussion and Contributions to the SDGs<\/b><\/span><\/h5><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event concluded with an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session. The speakers encouraged students to view mathematics as a powerful problem-solving tool capable of addressing complex societal challenges.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"538\" src=\"https:\/\/fst.unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1C-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fst.unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1C-1024x538.png 1024w, https:\/\/fst.unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1C-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/fst.unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1C-768x403.png 768w, https:\/\/fst.unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1C.png 1339w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moreover, both researchers demonstrated how optimal control strategies and numerical simulations can support evidence-based decision-making. Through these methodologies, mathematics contributes directly to public health and agricultural sectors.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ultimately, the guest lecture reaffirmed the critical role of mathematics in advancing sustainable development. Mathematical research helps strengthen food security, improve public health outcomes, and support high-quality, adaptive higher education.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-cd1fdc321d610f5dd2ac1457dfb161db wp-block-paragraph\">The topics presented during the event align closely with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:&#13;\n&#13;\n#SDG 2 \u2013 Zero Hunger&#13;\n# SDG 3 \u2013 Good Health and Well-Being&#13;\n#SDG 4 \u2013 Quality Education&#13;\n#SDG 17 \u2013 Partnerships for the Goals<\/p>\n\n<p
