The doctoral education of the S-3 MIPA study programme was originally under the auspices of the Postgraduate Programme of Universitas Airlangga. Since 2012, based on Rector Decree No. 681/H3.8/PPd/2012, the S-3 MIPA study programme has been placed in the Faculty of Science and Technology and coordinated by a Head of Study Programme (KPS) who is directly responsible to the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology.
In general, the goal of doctoral education at the Faculty of Science and Technology Universitas Airlangga (hereinafter referred to as FST-UA) is to produce a new concept in the field of interest of expertise without ignoring morality. The four fields of interest of S-3 expertise developed at FST-UA are Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. These four areas of expertise are hereinafter referred to as Study Interests. Each student can choose a more specialised expertise, namely Study Concentration. The doctoral education process in this S-3 MIPA study programme was originally designed as a combination of lectures and independent and structured research. However, in accordance with the Decree of the Rector of Universitas Airlangga No. 28/2017, starting from the 2018/2019 batch, the Doctor by Research Programme was implemented. In this programme, research becomes the main activity with very clear outcomes as stipulated in the Rector’s Decree. Lectures that are deemed necessary can be conducted according to student needs without credits. The curriculum is prepared for a study period of 6 semesters (3 years).
