FST Universitas Airlangga Initiates Academic Collaboration with Pampanga State University, Strengthening Southeast Asia Synergy

FST Universitas Airlangga Strengthens Internationalization

FST Universitas Airlangga continues to accelerate its internationalization in Southeast Asia. On  FST UNAIR held a strategic virtual meeting via Zoom with Pampanga State University (PSU), also known as Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) in the Philippines. The meeting focused on initiating strategic cooperation with PSU’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).

Discussion on Flagship Programs and Research Collaboration

FST Universitas Airlangga demonstrated that geographical distance is not a barrier to building strong intellectual networks. The discussion highlighted various flagship programs, including staff and student exchanges, research and publication collaboration, joint classes, and joint conferences. CAS PSU shares several academic disciplines aligned with FST Universitas Airlangga, such as Biology, Mathematics, and Statistics. Therefore, both institutions explored more specific and inclusive research collaborations to ensure that academic programs provide tangible benefits for both universities.

The FST UNAIR delegation was represented by Prof. Fatmawati, M.Si., Vice Dean III, and Barry Nuqoba, M.Kom., Ph.D., from the Cooperation Unit. The delegation was further strengthened by Inten Firdhausi Wardhani, M.Sc., from the FST Internationalization Unit, and Danar Arifka Rahman, S.T., M.T., serving as Faculty Ambassador.

The Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) office was also in attendance, represented by its Director, Irfan Wahyudi, M.Comms., Ph.D.; the Head of the Subdirectorate for Global Reputation and International Mobility, Tahta Amrillah, M.Sc., Ph.D.; along with other AGE staff members. The PSU delegation warmly welcomed the proposed collaboration plans, including Midred Crisostomo (Director, Office for International Partnerships and Programs), Mr. Rodel T. Alimurong (Program Head for International Linkages), Dr. Adonis David (Dean of CAS), and Mr. John Mikko Flores (CAS Coordinator).

Expectations for Collaboration and Regional Impact

The discussion took place in a constructive and engaging atmosphere, with a strong focus on integrating research into the academic curriculum. FST Universitas Airlangga aims to realize these collaborative programs in the near future to enhance the quality of education and research at the regional level. This partnership also strengthens bilateral relations between Indonesia and the Philippines, while further positioning FST Universitas Airlangga as a globally recognized faculty of science and technology.

Through this initiative, FST Universitas Airlangga reaffirms its commitment to strengthening academic synergy in Southeast Asia. Participants agreed to follow up on student and staff exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and academic conferences, ensuring that this collaboration delivers long-term impact for students, academic staff, and the advancement of knowledge at both institutions.

This academic collaboration between the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga, and Pampanga State University supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Goal 4: Quality Education by enhancing access to education, strengthening international networks, and developing high-quality research programs for students and staff of both universities.
