Surabaya – The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continues to expand its international academic network. This time, a strategic collaboration was established with the Department of Statistics, National Cheng-Chi University (NCCU), Taiwan. The partnership was marked by the official visit of Prof. Su-Fen Yang, who was warmly received at the FST UNAIR Meeting Room on Friday (January 9, 2026).
The meeting became a significant milestone for both institutions with the signing of an Implementation Agreement (IA) on Joint Research, Innovation, and Community Development. The agreement involves the Statistics Modelling for Economic and Social Sciences (SMESS) Research Group of FST UNAIR, chaired by Dr. M. Fariz Fadillah Mardianto, S.Si., M.Si., in collaboration with the Statistics Research Center of NCCU.
This collaboration goes beyond a formal agreement. It encompasses five key areas: joint research activities, international co-publications, the Academic Peer List (APL), community development programs, and mobility programs for both lecturers and students from the two institutions.

Representing the FST UNAIR deanery, Vice Dean III Prof. Fatmawati, S.Si., M.Si., expressed full support for the initiative. The discussion was also attended by the Head of the FST Cooperation Unit, Barry Nuqoba, S.Si., M.Kom., Ph.D., along with faculty members from the Statistics Study Program, including Elly Pusporani, S.Si., M.Stat., and Idrus Syahzaqi, S.Stat., M.Stat.
In addition to strategic discussions, the visit provided direct academic benefits for students through a guest lecture delivered by Prof. Su-Fen Yang entitled “Introduction to Statistical Process Control and Its Development.” Undergraduate students of the Statistics Study Program gained valuable insights into the latest developments in statistical process control from an international expert.
Through this one-year partnership, FST UNAIR aims to foster a more inclusive and innovative research ecosystem. The collaboration is expected not only to enhance the quality of international scientific publications but also to strengthen the real-world impact of statistical science in global community development, further reinforcing UNAIR’s position as a world-class university.
