This behavior not only affects academic performance but also leads to psychological issues and can even result in long-term disturbances in children’s mental and social relationships. Preventing bullying at the elementary school level is crucial for creating a safe and supportive environment for student development. Adolescents play a crucial role in educating students by setting positive examples, instilling empathy, and spreading anti-bullying messages. They can contribute to fostering a culture of mutual respect in schools.
A group of Biology students from Universitas Airlangga recently conducted a series of socialization events to introduce the concept of anti-bullying and strengthen friendships among students at SDN Bubutan III Surabaya. The event began with a presentation explaining bullying. Afterward, they organized educational games to promote friendship through group discussions. The group discussions delved into bullying experiences and helped students understand the feelings of victims and the importance of mutual support. As part of the socialization, they also created anti-bullying brochures and distributed them during the group discussions.
The socialization had a positive impact. First, it increased students’ understanding of bullying, helping them recognize what bullying is and identify inappropriate behaviors. Second, it helped create stronger bonds of friendship as students learned to respect each other and avoid hurting their friends. Through this socialization, the school became a safer and more enjoyable place where students felt accepted and could learn without fear of bullying.
