The 9th International Conference for Young Chemists (ICYC) is a biennial forum organized by the School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. This year, the forum adopted the theme “Green Innovation in Chemistry: Catalyzing Sustainable Solutions for a Greener Tomorrow.”
This forum serves as a platform for researchers and academics in the field of chemistry to share knowledge and discuss their research findings. Additionally, it facilitates participants in publishing their articles in Scopus-indexed journals. The event was held over three days, from October 9 to 11, 2024, at Bayview Hotel, Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia.
The 9th ICYC was not only attended by universities from ASEAN countries but also by institutions from France, Spain, Japan, and Hong Kong. On this occasion, the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga (FST UNAIR), sent two delegates: Prof. Dr. Miratul Khasanah, M.Si, as the Dean, and Dr. Alfa Akustia Widati, M.Si, from the Department of Chemistry. Besides serving as a forum for discussion and knowledge exchange, the conference was also seen as a valuable opportunity to expand collaboration networks between higher education institutions.

By sending delegates to participate in international conferences, UNAIR hopes to gain various benefits that support its recognition on the global stage. These benefits include expanding collaborative networks, increasing the number of scientific publications in Scopus-indexed journals, boosting the number of outbound staff achievements, and maintaining as well as enhancing existing partnerships with partner universities.
