AEGIS International Conference: Knowledge Exchange and Global Collaboration for a Sustainable Green Industry

Surabaya, August 13, 2024 – The AEGIS 2024 Conference served as an international discussion forum where representatives from various countries presented their green industry practices, focusing on global partnerships and climate change in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 17 and 13. The discussions addressed the challenges and solutions faced by each country in their efforts to achieve sustainability. The Yemeni representatives emphasized the importance of revitalizing their coffee industry through sustainable agricultural practices, despite significant challenges such as political instability and water crises. Meanwhile, the Pakistani group highlighted their 2050 vision, which focuses on sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and biodiversity conservation. Zimbabwe showcased progress in renewable energy projects and waste management, despite encountering technological and infrastructural challenges.

Signature of MoU by all participants

In addition, Mali presented their “Desert to Power” project, aimed at harnessing solar energy as a primary power source, while Japan shared its successful experience in wastewater management using advanced technologies such as UASB-AS. Each country’s discussion reaffirmed the necessity of integrating local policies with global collaboration (SDGs 17) to establish a sustainable green industry and address climate change challenges (SDGs 13).

Following the conference, an open discussion was held to summarize key points from each country’s presentation. Participants emphasized the need for a balance between energy independence and global collaboration, the importance of a comprehensive approach to tackling technological and environmental challenges, and the necessity of effective plastic waste management through systemic changes and supportive policies. A shared agreement was formalized in an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding), outlining commitments to sustainable consumption, environmental preservation, and raising awareness of the importance of green industries. To conclude the event, participants donated the collected plastic waste from the conference to the Surabaya Waste Bank in Dharmahusada and learned how to make eco-enzyme, a natural liquid derived from the fermentation of organic waste that is beneficial for cleaning and environmental maintenance.

The AEGIS 2024 Conference successfully integrated presentations from various countries, fostering a rich exchange of knowledge and culture that strengthened international collaboration in the collective effort to build a sustainable green industry, in alignment with SDGs 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) and SDGs 13 (Climate Action).
