suarasurabaya.net – Human needs on energy keeps on increasing. However, in reality, the increasing need is inversely proportional to energy availability in Indonesia, even in the world.
From that problem, a group of undergraduate physics students at Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga, namely Zulfa Zahiroh, Mutia Rifda Amalia Hoesain, and Nur Aidatuzzahro innovated a magnetic power plant.
The excellence of this innovation is that it is renewable (unable to run out) and eco-friendly. It is also easy to maintain.
This environmentally friendly technology is named Eco Friendly Electrical Neodymium Source Generator, which is shortened as EYELINER. The innovative idea was made into a proposal of Student Creativity Program in the field of Copyrighted Work (PKM-KC).
Under the guidance of advisor Dr. Ir. Soegianto Soelistiono, M.Si., the proposal created by Zulfa Zahiroh and her team passed the Dikti selection and it received a funding from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education in the 2018 PKM program.
“Actually, this device has a concept that utilizes the change of magnetic flux in order to optimize the magnetic field power in the coil. Hence, the continuous change of magnetic field generates electricity current,” said Zulfa, representing her team as the chief researcher.
Besides, the reason this team made this device is because Indonesia is currently encountering a serious problem, which is energy security. Energy consumption that includes oil, gas, and coal in Indonesia increased by 5.9 percent in 2016.
“So in the last 20 years, the consumption rate increased twofold, wherein the fastest increase occurred in the last five years,” added Zulfa Zahiroh.
Much of the analysis of calculation theory employed in this research revolves in the calculation of mechanic energy, magnetic moment, magnetic field, and Maxwell equation. This is estimated to be able to create a huge energy output through magnetic source, which was rarely noticed before.
“The technology we innovated has several advantages. For instance, it is a renewable energy or it cannot run out. In addition, it also does not need a big operational and maintenance budget. It is because it uses a magnetic energy source that spins continuously so that it can be operated in any wheather anywhere since it is portable and environment-friendly because it does not produce harmful gas emissions,” added Zulfa.
This technology by PKM-KC team of FST Unair is expected to reduce fossil fuel (petrol and diesel fuel) dependency so as to guarantee the national energy security in the future that is safe for the living environment. (iss/ipg)
